Many of my paintings have their origins from areas around the Hutt Valley and Wellington but much of my childhood was spent on a family farm at Kaikoura. It was here that my affection for the rugged New Zealand landscape grew and where I sketched and painted the mountains, the bush, the barns and other dilapidated farm buildings at every opportunity. Kaikoura at that time had an abundance of established artists and this has influenced my style and preference for landscape painting. I began painting in oils but now prefer the precise detail potential of acrylic. I have taught watercolour presentation work at Polytechnic and enjoy painting in that medium when the opportunity allows. My training and enjoyment of perspective and the built-form has helped me with the many paintings featuring buildings.
I attended the Wellington School of Architecture and completed a Bachelor of Architecture in the late 70's. I have been a practicing fulltime Architect ever since and I have painted only as a hobby. Earlier in my career, I held several solo exhibitions but since then my work commitments have restricted the time I have available for painting. The demand for my work has always exceeded supply and only recently have I begun to devote more time to painting with a view to collecting sufficient work for another exhibition.
I have paintings hanging in many private collections around the world and have featured as guest artist on frequent occasions.
